Conflicts between religions and laws

In all countries, there is a law that everybody may choose their own religions. It sounds simple but until now, there are still some troubles about that law. Everyone absolutely feels comfortable with that but do we ever think about what happens if this law becomes a barrier for the goverment to run other laws? It has been shown most clearly in marriage laws.
Firstly, in some developing countries, they still keep a traditional thinking that in families, women are just servants and they have to follow their husbands. . We can see the problem here. The goverment hit a big snag to stop that. Because that belongs to the traditions. It is very difficult to change. Those women themselves do not recognize that they probably can help themselves. They accept that as a fate, as a rule that no one can change. Besides, eductional systems in those countries are still undeveloped.
Another example is in some towns, they still have a rule that when the husband in a family dies, the wife has to get married with her husband’s brothers or even uncles. . It is hard to explain with those people because they will use our laws to go against us. They think that it belongs to their family’s stuffs that the goverment may not “touch”. So, what can we do now? Those religion do not go against the laws but it is against the ethic. It is not fair to everybody. Women are mostly people who have to deal with that. We also have many rules to protect women. We need to have some solutions for that problem.
Firstly, we need to develope the educational systems in those countries. That is the most important thing. Besides, we need to control religions’s affects to people’s lives. It cannot be the thing that decide their lives. That is the very big action that need everybody(even people in those countries for help.

Unify Or Seperate

If you believe in one thing and your friend believes in another, is it ok to try and change them? If they don’t want to change, does that mean that you have to change? Is it ok to judge someone because of what you believe? These are questions that people ask themselves every once in a while. Religion is such a broad topic that it has a connection to almost anything. Whether it be at school, home or on the job, religion can result in conflicts, people coming together and beliefs being questioned. One place where thoughts on religion or actions based on religions take place are at school or college, one reason that I believe that this is, is because during school years people are being judged. People are judged by how they dress, and how they act and what they believe. One article that I found that I think relates to this topic is one that I found in the New York Times. This article was about a college student who was setting up a recruiting table at his university for The Muslim Students Association. This student was approached by an undergraduate who came up to him in a miniskirt and greeted him with a “Salamu aleykum” a standard Arabic greeting as she asked to sign up. This girl was not allowed to sign up because the college student setting up the table felt that her skirt signaled that she would corrupt the Islamic values of the other members. But, the college student who was setting up the table was not as good as he may seem, He had a rough past which included smoking and he was allowed a second chance. There are many things that I see in my opinion are wrong with this. One is that once your allowed a second chance I feel that the least you can do is give someone else a first. The second thing that I see wrong with this is that this girl was judged by the way she dress and the way she dress alone which I believe is unfair.

Another topic that I want to address is about faith and religion bringing people together. One article I read from the Detroit News was about students at the University Of Michigan who are Muslim and Jewish that have been working together to help rebuild New Orleans and the big talk on campus is how and why.

“Giving of yourself to others is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, I feel like, as a Muslim, whatever is in my capability to do good, will help others.” Said one of the students. While another says she was driven to be active. “It’s just something I have thought about, as part of me being Jewish, since high school.” Even thought it may seem that they come from different sides of the world different people were able to come together for one cause. Even though there have been problems with the relations between Jews and Muslims as generations-long disputes and new spasms of war wracking the Middle East emphasize the divisions between the two large religious communities these college students were able to get the Jewish Federation of Detroit, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Muslim Student Association, the Jewish student organization Hillel and the American Muslim Center to support them. Not only that but this coming together has given these students the opportunity to learn about a different culture and learn more about their own.So even though we may come from different places and believe in different things religion brings us together and pulls us apart in many ways.
